Blueberries are native to North America and have been part of life here for 13,000 years. The first highbush blueberry bush was successfully cultivated for production in the early 1900s. Today, blueberries are grown in many states across the country, including South Carolina. They were first introduced to South Carolina in the early 1900s. The state is now one of the top producers of blueberries in the country. There are several blueberry festivals in South Carolina. Here are some of the most popular ones:
Newton Blueberry Farm Blueberry Festivals: Held in mid-June and features local vendors selling produce, baked goods, honey, custom crafts & more.
Blue Pearl Farms Annual Lowcountry Blueberry Festival: Held at Blue Pearl Farms in McClellanville, Features live music, food trucks, craft vendors, & of course, plenty of blueberries.
South Carolina Blueberry Festival: Held in Hartsville and features a 5K run/walk, antique show & sale, shag contest, car show, BBQ, craft & food vendors, blueberry vendors, kids activities & live music.
